Wondering whether or not you should put up Plantation shutters? Well, the first thing to realize is that they really are not cheap. To the contrary, they are some of the more expensive window coverings you can buy, even if you look for the cheaper ones. But if you're looking for a classic style and wanting to add a wood look to your room's decor, they could be the way to go.
Basically there are two main types of plantation shutters, those made from real hard wood, and those made from composite or faux wood. Faux wood plantation shutters are generally a bit cheaper than the real wood plantation shutters, although of course sometimes it depends on the design as well.
If you want to get cheaper plantation shutters you may want to look into the half window variety. They only cover the bottom half of your window, leaving the top part totally open so that plenty of light can stream into your room, yet you can have the privacy you need from keeping the bottom section of your windows covered.
Plantation shutters are hinged and they open out to the sides of the windows, which is nice as it allows you to open up the window from the bottom, or to switch it out depending on how you have it hung.
